Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and motivated Research Staff Scientist to lead research efforts in the development of mRNA-based vaccines against viral targets, including SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and HIV-1. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and collaborate with team members to design, experiment, and analyze vaccine candidates, aiming to make substantial advancements in virology and vaccine research.

Essential Job Duties

  • Perform scientific research aimed at designing mRNA-based vaccines against viral targets including SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and HIV-1. Work with the PI on designs and modifications to experimental techniques and procedures.
  • Design and characterize vaccine candidates for various targets through in vitro experimentation.
  • Perform research to assess the efficacy of vaccine candidates in vivo through organized experiments and data analysis. Investigate scientific problems related to vaccine efficacy and propose solutions for improvement.
  • Work closely with the PI and collaborators to design experiments, analyze results, and contribute to the preparation of scientific papers and grant applications.
  • ​Present research work at relevant seminars, conferences, and participate in lab discussions to share knowledge and insights.
  • Act as the point of contact for collaborations and coordinate with contract research organizations (CROs) for project requirements.
  • Supervise a team of postdoc(s), graduate student(s) and technician(s) working on these projects, providing guidance and mentorship.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors in biological sciences or related field.
  • Postdoctoral experience of 1+ years in a related research field with a minimum of 8 total years of relevant years of experience.
  • Experience with mRNA synthesis, vaccine design, and characterization.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to work collaboratively within a team. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD Preferred
  • Proficiency in mammalian protein expression and protein purification methods (e.g., SEC, affinity chromatography).
  • Experience with structural biology techniques (e.g., cryo-EM) and interpreting structural data.
  • Expertise in protein engineering and structure-based design.
  • Proficient in molecular cloning techniques.
  • Experience performing serum characterization experiments (e.g., ELISA, viral neutralization, etc).
  • Experience in leading research teams and managing projects is a plus.
