Job Description:

The University of Florida’s Department of Medicine is seeking applications for a full-time postdoctoral associate for the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Licht. The postdoctoral fellow will perform studies related to the role of epigenetics in blood malignancies, particularly acute lymphocytic leukemia, myeloma, and lymphoma. They are needed to complete the aims of studies outlined in awards from the State of Florida Bankhead Coley program, Live like Bella program and the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation. The Licht Lab will investigate the role of histone methyltransferase NSD2 in the molecular biology of hematologic malignancies.  The Post Doc will perform both in vitro and mouse model experiments, prepare animal protocols, write up data into manuscripts, abstracts, and grant progress reports as well as present research findings at internal lab meetings and scientific conferences. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to understand the project and work independently taking responsibilities in the development and execution of experimental procedures to successfully advance the research project. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing data for presentations, progress reports, and the preparation of manuscripts and posters. The post-doctoral fellow is anticipated to have good communication and writing skills. The successful candidate will have a team-oriented mindset and will provide guidance to junior members.

Essential Functions;

  • Perform studies related to the role of epigenetics in blood malignancies, particularly acute lymphocytic leukemia, myeloma, and lymphoma
  • Complete the aims of studies outlined in awards from the State of Florida Bankhead Coley program, Live like Bella program and the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation.
  • Perform data analysis and interpretation.
  • Present results in internal and external research forums.
  • Participate in grant and manuscript writing, as appropriate
Expected Salary:

$55,000 - $60,000; commensurate with experience and education.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Hold a M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Stem Cell Biology/Regenerative Medicine, Molecular Biology, or equivalent from an accredited graduate level institution.
  • Minimum publication or in preparation of one article as first author in a reputable peer-reviewed scientific journal.
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in cell culture, flow cytometry, mouse handling, and basic cellular and molecular biology techniques required
  • Knowledge and experience with RNA/DNA extraction, PCR and qPCR analysis, and next generation sequencing a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Self-motivated and career-oriented individual preferred.
  • One first author publication from graduate work preferred
