Assistant Professor 

The Department of Physics at the University of Florida (UF) seeks a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biophysics Theory with strength in computation and data science, to begin August 16, 2024. Applications are encouraged from highly qualified candidates in all areas of theoretical biological physics, including but not limited to active matter and soft condensed matter, molecular and cellular function and dynamics, signaling and information processing, systems biology, collective behavior, neural dynamics and behavior, cellular and organismal physiology and development, ecological and evolutionary dynamics, machine learning and biological data analysis, and related topics.

This position offers the opportunity to interact with the research efforts both within and outside the Department of Physics, including interdisciplinary interactions with the Department of Biology, Microbiology and Cell Science, Biomedical Engineering, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Florida Museum of Natural History, and College of Medicine. The University has heavily invested in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science initiatives and centers, providing high-performance computational resources including the HiPerGator 3.0 and HiPerGator AI, the largest supercomputer and AI infrastructure in higher education.

The University of Florida is currently ranked 6th in the country among public universities (US News and World Report 2023 rankings), and ranked 1st among public institutions in the Wall Street Journal 2023 survey. UF is located in Gainesville, a city of approximately 150,000 residents in North-Central Florida, 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, and within a 2-hour drive to large metropolitan areas (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville).
