POSITION PURPOSE
The University of Washington’s Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (APM) is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine with 245 clinical and research faculty members, 110 residents, 38 Postdoctoral Scholars and ACGME Fellows, 90 staff members, and 115 affiliated clinical faculty members. Our current research funding from both government and private sources exceeds $10 million.  The department has eight divisions Our clinical footprint is comprised of nine clinical divisions – Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Obstetric Anesthesiology, Neuroanesthesiology & Perioperative Neurosciences, Seattle Children’s Hospital (Pediatric Anesthesiology), UW Medical Center-Montlake Multispecialty Anesthesiology, Critical Care Anesthesiology, Harborview Medical Center, VA Puget Sound Hospital, and Pain Medicine – across six University and University-affiliated sites, including the Montlake and Northwest campuses of the UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center (the only Level-1 trauma center in the five-state WWAMI region), Seattle Children’s Hospital, and VA Puget Sound Hospital. In addition, the extensive and well-funded APM research is conducted at SLU, Children’s Research Institute and at labs in the Health Sciences complex.

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (APM) has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director of Human Resources.

The Associate Director serves as the central expert resource for the recruitment, hiring, retention, and promotion of our faculty and staff members including payroll, Workday HR/P functions, and compliance. They are responsible for oversight of all faculty and staff processes, impacts to compensation and funding, and manage the HR team who carryout day-to-day operations. The Associate Director of HR will be responsible for providing policy level analysis to the Vice Chair of Finance & Administration (VCFA), Chair, and is a member of the executive leadership team.

The position represents APM in School of Medicine (SOM) or University Committees, ensuring APM is involved and knowledgeable about HR changes and initiatives.  They have delegated responsibility for assuring the administrative policies and practices meet all regulatory requirements and is responsible for developing and implementing systems and policies to assure compliance. The Associate Director will play a critical role in the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans and will need to be constantly thinking about strategic initiatives and process improvements for the HR team.
