Job Description

 

This is a full time, tenure-track, 10-month, Faculty bargaining-unit position. Starting annual salary is $50,470 (new hire may be eligible for additional steps on the salary schedule according to prior work and education). Schedule may include late afternoons and/or evenings, online, or in a “virtual/interactive” classroom.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Business or related field. Minimum of 18 quarter hours of graduate credit in Accounting. Degree must be conferred by an accredited institution before employment begins.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse students, staff, and community members.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and be open to effective and appropriate uses of technology in the curriculum.
  • Must be able to use computer technology to enhance instruction, including an ability and willingness to deliver all courses with a variety of modalities including online instruction., as needed.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings or split daily schedule of classes.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two or more years’ college teaching experience.
  • Current CPA licensure strong preferred.
  • Educational background or equivalent experience in economics strong preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use alternate methods of instruction in the classroom, such as collaborative learning; experiences related to educational duties, such as student advising, committee assignments, and curriculum development; experience in use of technology in the classroom to aid the learning process; experience with computer assisted instruction, such as online teaching of business, accounting, or economics courses.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide classroom and online instruction in various Business Courses with an emphasis in the areas of Economics and Accounting.
  • Create a positive learning environment for students using innovative, effective and diverse teaching methods to engage students in their own learning and enhance student success.
  • Work with local high schools and other partners to provide dual-credit and other incentives to enroll at TVCC.
  • Participate in and assist with organizing co-curricular activities with campus groups and off campus groups when possible, including recruiting events.
  • Utilize classroom assessment techniques to improve instruction and to align with course and college outcomes. (Submit Program Learning Outcomes)
  • Participate in the student advising and college-wide efforts to improve student retention and success.
  • Evaluate and document student progress, keeping students apprised of progress.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, in-service training and activities, and other required training. Participate as a member of working committees dealing with instruction, student matters, and/or college-related concerns.
  • Assist in curriculum and program development incorporating current educational theories, research, and outcomes assessment strategies. Select appropriate texts, software, and supplemental materials.
  • Maintain office hours sufficient to meet the needs of students for consultation and advisement: minimum five hours per week (as per TVEA contract).
  • Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural (including traditional, non-traditional and international students) and socio-economic backgrounds. Teach night and weekend courses as needed.
  • Work closely with industry to provide cooperative work experience opportunities for students and lead/ participate in the business Advisory committee.
  • Teach night and weekend courses as needed.
  • Enter Quarterly Institutional Learning Outcome (ILO) assessments.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve teaching and learning, with an emphasis on improving achievement outcomes for historically underserved student populations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
