Position Summary:
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage invites applicants for a tenure track assistant professor position in Genetics/Genomics. Candidates with expertise in genetics/genomics of wildlife, fish, plants, eukaryotic model organisms or microbes, or in population or conservation genetics, are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities are four courses per year, including Principles of Genetics, and upper division and graduate electives specific to the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful applicant will incorporate indigenous ways of knowing into their teaching and/or research. A PhD in genetics/genomics, biological sciences, or a closely related discipline, and a record of research productivity are required. Postdoctoral or equivalent experience and evidence of independent funding are preferred. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and teaching experience is preferred. The successful applicant will contribute to research and teaching in the Department by developing an extramurally funded research program involving graduate and undergraduate students and teaching courses within our BA and BS in Biological Sciences, BS in Natural Sciences, and MS in Biological Sciences degrees. The Department of Biological Sciences at UAA specializes in Biomedical and Ecosystem Health Sciences with three core research foci: cellular, molecular and microbial biology; physiology and physiological ecology; and boreal and polar ecosystem ecology. State-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and computational resources are available to facilitate research and teaching including the AIMS and ASET core facilities.
