Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree in Physics or foreign equivalent degree in hand by the start of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:  
Prior experience in cryogenics or scanning probe microscopy, and the field of condensed matter. At least one first-author paper accepted for publication or published in a peer-reviewed journal by the time of application.

Brief Description of Duties: 
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator,
Mengkun Liu , in the Department of Physics & Astronomy . The incumbent will conduct research in experimental condensed matter physics in collaboration with the PI. In particular, the incumbent will perform research on device fabrication as well as sample characterization. The incumbent will be expected to participate in the building of a cryogenic s-SNOM and investigate the low temperature properties of chiral magnetic materials, strongly correlated electron systems, and two-dimensional materials using s-SNOM. The incumbent is also expected to be familiar with the main features of the next generation of closed-cycle or continuous flow optical cryostat  and scanning probes. 

This position also requires the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with team members having a broad range of scientific and technical backgrounds and levels of experience. In addition, this position will involve training and management of undergraduate or graduate students, development of new proposals, and day-to-day management of scientific collaborations. The researcher will be encouraged to lead independent projects resulting in high impact publications, present at conferences and workshops.

     Perform research in experimental condensed matter physics in collaboration with the PI.

     Creatively generate new ideas to approach research topics to explore; maintain the cryogenic system and cooperate the collaborations between the PIs.

     Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the research group.

     Assist PI with preparation and submission of applications for external research funding, progress reports to sponsors, publications.

     Present results of research at conferences and workshops.

     Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
