Job Description


The Desert Research Institute's (DRI's) Division of Hydrologic Sciences is seeking an innovative postdoctoral researcher with expertise in the general areas of hydrology, geology, and geochemistry. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for planning and organizing field sampling campaigns and analyzing and interpreting water quality data from lakes and reservoirs post-wildfire. The successful candidate must have a strong background in hydrology (groundwater/surface), geology, or geochemistry and excellent data management skills. Additional responsibilities include conducting geochemical analyses and organizing, collecting and quality control of data. The successful candidate will support ongoing and new interdisciplinary programs at DRI at the interface of hydrology, geology, chemistry, and wildfire as part of an interdisciplinary team including researchers at DRI and the US Army Corps of Engineers - Engineer Research and Development Center. The incumbent may choose to work at DRI’s Reno or Las Vegas, NV campus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. with a focus on hydrology, geology, geochemistry from an accredited institution, with a strong interdisciplinary background.
  • Familiarity with environmental water quality analysis, aqueous carbon cycle analysis, or emerging contaminants.
  • Experience conducting aqueous analyses for metals, nutrients, and/or emerging contaminants.
  • Experience with management and organization of hydrologic and/or geochemical datasets.
  • Experience working independently to fulfill project goals and meet project deadlines.
  • Experience working collegially in a group setting.
  • Experience publishing in peer reviewed literature.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
