Open Doors for Multicultural Families (ODMF) is hiring a Case Manager with to serve our African American families. This position will provide 1:1 case management support and resources for individuals and families with developmental/intellectual disabilities. This is a critical position aligned with the Vision, Mission, Values and Tagline of ODMF.

Open Doors for Multicultural Families (ODMF) is a nonprofit-charitable organization dedicated to ensuring that diverse families of loved ones with developmental/intellectual disabilities and special health care needs have equal access to culturally appropriate information, resources, and services.

ABOUT THE POSITION

ODMF Case Manager serves multicultural families of children with disabilities and advocates on their behalf. They help families navigate complex systems, provide cultural and language support (if applicable), assist families accessing resources, information, and services. They outreach to focus communities, organize related activities, and collaborate with professionals and community volunteers to support multicultural families and their loved ones with disabilities.

*ODMF employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (proof of vaccination will be requested during the onboarding process for the successful candidate)*

RESPONSIBILITIES

General

  • Outreach to communities to identify and recruit families of children with disabilities participating at our programs and services (including focus groups)
  • Conduct culturally appropriate initial contact and intake to establish family’s service needs.
  • Work with collaborating agencies, assist families navigating disability service systems effectively and obtaining available resources, services, and information.
  • Promote parent/educator partnership by supporting families of children with disabilities, Special Educators, Specialists, and administrators to increase parental engagement in the special education.
  • Culturally and linguistically interpret (including simultaneous interpretation in a group setting) Special Education and disability related information and resources to ensure families’ understanding on the issues.
  • Conduct home or site visits. Attend meetings and, such as IEPs, with families and advocate for positive outcomes at the best interests of the families.
  • Link families with parent support groups and support parent mentors and their support group activities.
  • Work as a collaborative team member with other staff of the program to conduct family event and fulfill other project related responsibilities.
  • Work with parent mentors to conduct parent education training
  • Provide community education to increase disability awareness in the ethnic communities and advocate for system changes for people with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Network and develop positive partnering relationships with other community agency staff.
  • Outreach to diverse communities by distributing materials at community gathering places and resource fairs to ensure program visibility.

Administrative

  • Work with other program staff and the Program Manager to monitor, evaluate and improve program performance to meet client needs most effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date files and documentation online (Salesforce) for complete and timely reporting.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information
  • Attend program and staff meetings and training as determined by Project Director
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Director

Language specific responsibilities

  • Provide language support to families as assigned by Program Manager (example: at ODMF workshops)
  • Translate flyers and proofread documents in your spoken languages as assigned by Program Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

  • English Fluency Written/Spoken
  • BA degree in special education, social services, psychology, counseling, social work, or related field OR equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, and Power Point)
  • Track record of respect for others’ experiences, opinions, language, values, culture, and knowledge
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of Special Education, DDA system, social services, resources, and information for people with disabilities
  • Proven ability as an effective communicator and strong advocate for people with disabilities and their families
  • Available for flexible work hours (some evenings and weekends as needed)
  • Able to commute to and provide services in South King County
  • Reliable transportation for work purposes and a valid WA state driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to pass DSHS criminal background check per RCW 43.43.830 & drug test at the offer stage of the hiring process.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year paid or volunteer experience working with diverse families of family members with disabilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Working in front of a computer or at a desk for long periods of time
  • Periodic standing and stooping as needed.

COMPENSATION

  • Full Time 40/week, $20.37-22.44 per hour
