Job Description


The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL is looking for a postdoctoral candidate to perform research on sustainable energy with particular focus on nature-inspired nano architectures. 
The successful candidate would be part of a dynamic team, working with a group of scientists conducting a wide range of basic research using state-of-the-art synthesis and characterization facilities at the CNM. The candidate will primarily be responsible for developing an experimental program that develops nanoscale hybrids assembled from inorganic materials and organic and biological molecules for broad application in solar energy conversion through photocatalysis. The candidate will collaborate with other members at the CNM and other Argonne Divisions.


The candidate will be responsible for disseminating research findings by publishing them in peer-reviewed journals and delivering oral presentations at various professional meetings, conferences, symposia, and seminars. Additionally, they will stay informed about the latest techniques and expertise within related research groups through active engagement and collaborative endeavors. The candidate will also provide updates on experiment progress, the development of new techniques, and innovative initiatives to both peer colleagues and the manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to development of strong research program in the CNM strategic direction in sustainable energy using nanoscale materials
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of pertinent literature in the field
  • Develops new ideas, concepts, and/or research proposals to create programmatic growth and intellectual property for the Division

Position Requirements

  • A recent Ph.D. achieved within the last 3 years or upcoming year and 0-3 years of experience in materials science, chemistry or a related field
  • Experience in synthesis, assembly, and characterization of nanoscale materials
  • Experience in photochemistry and catalysis
  • Experience in analysis and reporting of research data 
  • Strong oral and written communication of scientific results and experimental plans
  • Ability to work well both in a diverse team environment and independently
  • Ability to solve problems efficiently
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in scientific research
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
