The PELE Center is looking to hire a .50 Research Assistant Professor to provide training and technical assistance to local education agencies and state level departments of education, human services and early childhood organizations that contract with the PELE Center to adopt high quality inclusive practices for young children with disabilities, scale these practices and design policies and procedures to ensure that they are sustained across time.

The PELE Center is singularly focused on advancing inclusive practices nationwide. We do this in collaboration with providers across the country and internationally, the Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center and the National Center of Pyramid Model Innovations.

Position Summary

PELE Center contracts are multiyear and involve large scale systemic change. As such, the person filling this position will partner with clients in longitudinal and broad-based systems planning and change. Key elements of the job include:

  • Establishing a trusting relationship with and among diverse clients and agencies that historically have not collaborated toward inclusion of young children with disabilities.
  • Guiding state and local leadership teams within and across agencies to building a shared and intentional purpose toward inclusive practices.
  • Co-constructing with clients a strategic plan (5 year) that outlines steps for eliminating policy and practice level barriers to inclusion, designing budgets which prioritize inclusion, establishing state and local level coaching systems and designing data systems which demonstrate equitable child, provider, and system outcomes.
  • Reviewing data with clients and altering the strategic plan as necessary to achieve outcomes.
  • Co-constructing sustainability plans with clients that ensure implementation of inclusion.
  • Assisting clients and crafting reports to superintendents, school boards, governors and early childhood advocacy groups regarding important findings and accomplishments.
  • Presenting on PELE technical assistance work at national professional meetings.
  • Collaborating with PELE personnel who are doing simultaneous work directly training classroom teams to use high quality inclusive practices.
  • Soliciting new contractual work for the PELE Center.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and secure funding to supplement work on these technical assistance subcontracts.
  • Coordinate and monitor spending across PELE projects.
  • Conduct multiple national webinars.
  • Present findings at multiple national conferences each year.
  • Supervise doctoral and post-doctoral trainees across PELE projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of implementation science for equity.
  • Use of adult learning principles and guiding teams of administrators and leaders.
  • Knowledge of high quality inclusion at the classroom level.
  • Ability and skills to guide groups to change policies and practices where needed.
  • Highly skilled at communication and leadership.
  • Documented history creating meaningful working relationships across diverse programs, agencies, and professional organizations.
  • Experience creating needs assessments, readiness materials, and observation guidance for programs participating in professional development and technical assistance.
  • Committed to using data to drive decisions, including evaluation of training and technical assistance efforts through plan-do-study-act cycles.
  • Passion for innovating new resources, systems, and supports for early childhood programs, staff, and families.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational habits, and professional conduct.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in early childhood or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years experience with inclusion.
  • Past leadership position(s) in field.
  • Past teaching experience at University level.
  • Past administrative experience with preschoolers with disabilities.
  • Evidence of acquiring competitive grant support as Principal Investigator.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using implementation science principles to develop innovative services.
  • Prior experience with PELE projects

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate

 Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday; 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (average 20 hour period)

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary rate for the position is $55,000.
