The Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department is dedicated to the well-being and care of all of its patients. What we want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will study cellular and molecular mechanisms of central nervous system demyelination and myelin repair with particular interests in neuroinflammation and neuron-glia interactions. This research explores novel mechanisms linking oligodendrocyte (dys)function to brain aging and neurodegeneration relevant to Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis. In this position, you will be responsible for designing and executing research projects that align with the overall research goals of the laboratory. You will have the valuable opportunity to receive close mentorship and access to career development opportunities. This role also involves collaborating effectively within a team, maintaining high scientific standards, and being open to working alongside both graduate and undergraduate members of the research lab.

Required Education and Experience:

  • PhD in biology, neurobiology, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology or other life science related field

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong interest in cell biology research and in developing research skills using cutting-edge technology and multidisciplinary approaches

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong background in one or more of these areas: cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, lipidomics, immunofluorescence microscopy and mouse genetics

  • Previous experience working with rodent models and primary cells

  • 2 - 3 years of postdoc research experiences

  • A strong track record of research productivity and excellent written and oral communication skills are strongly preferred

Responsibilities:

Research Experiments 

  • Executes research experiments, in vivo (mice) and in vitro (primary cell cultures), using a wide range of lab techniques

  • Performs mouse husbandry, genotyping, and colony management related to research projects

  • Documents experiments and maintains accurate lab notebooks

Data analysis and interpretation

  • Analyzes and compiles research data obtained from experiments

  • Evaluates, interprets, and presents research data

  • Writes reports and manuscripts and contributes to grant proposals

Meetings and General lab operation 

  • Participates in weekly lab meetings

  • Participates in joint projects involving collaborative teams

  • Performs some general lab duties such as maintaining laboratory instruments and assist with lab safety inspections.

Student training and supervision  

  • Trains and mentors graduate and undergraduate students

  • Performs other duties as assigned
