Rappahannock Community College (RCC), founded in 1970, provides high-quality educational and training opportunities throughout a 12-county service region an hour east of Richmond on the beautiful western shore of the Chesapeake Bay with access to fresh local seafood and water activities. RCC delivers accessible and affordable educational opportunities, including for-credit transfer and career technical programs, robust distance education coursework, quality dual enrollment courses, and award-winning workforce training and credentialing programs. RCC’s annualized enrollment of 3,259 credit students and over 1,000 workforce and community development students are supported by over 120 full-time employees and 200 part-time/adjunct employees across two main campuses and four satellite sites.

RCC serves a rural and diverse 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, whose mission is to provide inclusive access to exceptional training and educational opportunities meeting the community’s needs and preparing individuals for success as learners, employees, and citizens.

Rappahannock Community College seeks to create a team of nursing educators that reflect the diversity of our student body. RCC desires applicants for a faculty-ranked, on-campus teaching position in nursing to provide instruction across the following nursing programs: Practical Nursing (PN), and Associate Degree Nursing (ADN). Diverse candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position is a nine-month appointment with an excellent benefits package. Salary commensurate with education and experience. This position requires an on-campus presence during normal operations.

The College desires candidates with a commitment to the community college mission and experience working with a diverse student population, including adult learners and at-risk students. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning. Outreach and service to the college community (developing partnerships, academic advising, and committee work and faculty governance) along with the ability to teach 15 credits per semester is required of the position. Finalists will be asked to perform a teaching demonstration.

The successful candidate will participate in nursing curriculum oversight, student placement in clinical sites, student and faculty development and assessment and evaluation responsibilities for the nursing programs. Teaching assignments and schedule may include day and evening assignments, cross-campus or off-campus assignments, and teaching concurrently enrolled high school students.

The general responsibilities for nursing instructor on both campuses are to teach lecture, lab and clinical courses in the PN Certificate, and/or in the (ADN) degree program. Other duties will include, but are not limited to, facilitating student learning through in class and out of class activities, maintaining up to date knowledge in nursing and trends in community college and nursing education, and teaching using a variety of delivery systems including interactive video, web, and other electronic media. Teaching faculty will advise students, adopt textbooks, draft course syllabi in collaboration with colleagues, set up, maintain lab/classroom environments, and participate in program, division and college governance committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants with an Associate Degree in Nursing will be considered for this position, provided there is a commitment to obtain the Master’s degree within the next four years, fully funded by the college. A current RN license in Virginia or Compact State licensure. Demonstrated clinical competence in providing direct patient care across multiple patient populations and settings. Ability to communicate effectively with students and peers. Teamwork and the ability to work effectively in a complex and dynamic educational environment are expected. Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources. Considerable experience teaching in nursing (lecture and labs). Experience with learning management systems and knowledge in curriculum development strongly preferred. Experience with the systematic plan of evaluation for external regulatory and accreditation agencies preferred.
