Position Summary

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Celia Santi's laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Center for Reproductive Health Sciences.

The Santi lab studies the molecular mechanisms involved in sperm capacitation, in both mice and humans. We are especially interested in how changes in sperm electrical activity and ion channel function affect the sperm fertility capacity. We also are interested in developing new methods to assess the ability of sperm to capacitate and fertilize an oocyte, and in developing novel contraceptive drugs. We use a combination of different techniques: molecular biology, protein biochemistry, electrophysiology, calcium imaging, genetics and flow cytometry, voltage-dependent dyes.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

This position will focus on investigating the role of membrane potential on sperm capacitation.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Clear interest in the molecular mechanisms involved in sperm capacitation are desirable.
• Candidates with a strong background in cell and molecular biology, protein biochemistry, electrophysiology, fluorometric techniques, cell imaging, genetics are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to write manuscripts and contribute to grant applications.

Working Conditions

The chosen candidate will work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
