Job Summary
The mission of the Caltech Center for Inclusion and Diversity (CCID) is to provide education, advocacy and allyship to foster an inclusive campus community across individuals from all student, postdoctoral scholar, faculty, and staff groups.
Reporting to the Director of the CCID, the Associate Director of the CCID is responsible for carrying out the Center's mission by developing and overseeing programming and initiatives that promote a supportive and inclusive campus environment in which individuals of all backgrounds will experience a sense of belonging, cultivate a sense of belonging for each other, and ultimately thrive personally and professionally at Caltech.
Essential Job Duties
  • Develop, implement, assess educational programming and activities intended to celebrate the identities and experiences, cultivate a sense-of-belonging, facilitate leadership and scholarly development of historically minoritized, marginalized, and underserved populations and promote inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility within the Institute.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide the two Program Managers to advance the goals of Caltech's IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) initiatives and carry out the mission of the CCID.
  • Develop, implement, and assess CCID programs related to mentoring, leadership development, and educational outreach (e.g., Caltech Diversity & Inclusion Ambassador Program, International Women's Day).
  • Develop policies, procedures, and timeline to ensure consistent support and development of club leadership and membership, including orientation and leadership transition.
  • Advise and support women's oversight groups (e.g., WMW Advisory Board, Women's Engagement Board), student clubs, and organizations with connection to the CCID.
  • Organize and coordinate all educational sessions, trainings, workshops, and outreach efforts for the CCID.
  • Work with the CCID Director and the First-Year Success Research Institute (FSRI) Program Director to develop, conduct, and assess educational sessions, trainings, workshops, outreach initiatives, toolkits, and resources intended to educate the Caltech campus community about issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Work with the CCID Director and the FSRI Program Director to coordinate the quarter and end of the year reports.
  • Assist the CCID Director and the FSRI Program Director with the curriculum development of CCID's Signature Programs.
  • Expand targeted programming and support the creation of affinity spaces for Caltech community members from historically minoritized, marginalized, and underserved populations.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and assessment of the office's short and long-term strategic planning.
  • Co-lead, develop, implement, and assess CCID's marketing, branding, and internal- and external-facing CCID communications, including digital/social media campaigns, weekly email calendar and other Center publications.
  • Along with the CCID Director, engage with Caltech's Office of Strategic Communications (OSC) to support the development of IDEA-related campus-level communications.
  • Liaison with various offices on campus on matters related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
  • Work with the CCID Director to identify and formalize working partnerships with external and community organizations advancing inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility work.
  • Model and instantiate the values of CCID and the Caltech community; comporting oneself always with grace, kindness, and patience, while creating an inclusive environment for each individual, and utilizing effective management strategies to lead partners of all levels to desired outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in education, social science, or related field with 5+ years of related work experience, or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Ability to work with and support a diverse group of students with an emphasis on those who are underrepresented minorities and LGBTQ+.
  • Demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and presenting educational programs.
  • Must possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with little direction and to make appropriate decisions based upon policy, accepted practices, and/or procedures.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with a variety of staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while working in a complex and fast-paced organization.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree and 6+ years of directly related work experience.
  • The successful candidate will ideally understand the academic environment.
