Job Description
The Research Scientist, under general supervision, designs, performs, and analyzes experiments. Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize cell lines for specific research objectives.
- Formulate and optimize cell culture media.
- Conduct stem-cell differentiation experiments.
- Utilize analytical techniques, including but not limited to animal cell culture, fluorescence microscopy, qPCR, immunocytochemistry.
- Independently lead and execute research projects.
- Draft research manuscripts for publication and develop proposals.Train and mentor students and postdocs involved in related research.
- Manage lab functions and ensure a smooth research environment.
- Provide administrative support to the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PIs.
- Collaborate closely with Dr. Reza Ovissipour, the PI, on project progress, grant writing, manuscript preparation, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring.
- Attend regular meetings with the PI, research team members, stakeholders, and collaborators.
- May involve occasional travel for project-related activities.
- Collaborate with other institutions and stakeholders to meet the requirements of the National Institute for Cellular Agriculture.
- Design bioreactor and 3D cell culture.
- Designs, performs, and analyzes experiments consistent with project objectives. Conducts independent research aligned with the TAMUS member’s mission. Keeps detailed records of procedures and data.
- Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results.
- Validates strategic decision-aid models.
- Develops procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy of data collection and analyses.
- Identifies, assimilates, and synthesizes data needed for computer models and manages databases relating to statistical and related software.
- -Maintains expertise with the latest hardware and software technologies for statistical and numerical data analyses. Keeps up-to-date on scientific research via reading of literature, etc. Attends scientific meetings and seminars for research enhancement.
- Prepares data for publication and presentation. Writes grants and proposals to acquire external funding.
- Coordinates laboratory activities. Maintains laboratory instrumentation and follows applicable safety standards.
- Other duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
- Ph.D. in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. (e.g., Cell Biology, Tissue Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology).
- Six (6) years of related experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
- Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to relocate to College Station Texas
- Supervisory skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in PCR, imaging, and cell characterization.
- Postdoctoral experience in cell culture techniques
- Strong background or motivation to learn molecular biology and gut biome.
