Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
For Psychologists: A Ph.D./Psy.D. (or foreign equivalent) from an APA-accredited clinical or counseling psychology program. A minimum of one (1) year of full-time postdoctoral work experience providing clinical services. NYS license or ability to obtain NYS license within one (1) year of employment.
For Social Workers: A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree (foreign equivalent or higher) with a specialization in clinical social work, clinical practice, or mental health. For Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSW), two (2) years of full-time postgraduate work experience providing clinical services. For Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), one (1) year of full-time postgraduate work experience providing clinical services.
For Licensed Mental Health Counselors: A Master of Mental Health Counseling degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and possession of a NY State license in mental health counseling (LMHC).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience providing counseling services as a professional staff member in a university setting. Experience in and commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical practices and center procedures and policies. Mental health crisis intervention experience. Experience in one or more of the following areas: DBT, eating/body image issues; substance abuse, trauma. Experience delivering training or conducting workshops and/or outreach programming on mental health topics. Electronic medical record-keeping experience with programs such as Medicat, Point and Click, and/or Titanium. Experience providing clinical supervision to interns and externs. Proficiency in spoken and/or written languages other than English.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Mental Health Counselor assists in developing and implementing mental health programs for the campus community including the provision of individual and group therapy and counseling to students, assessment interviews, referrals, and consultation with faculty and staff around issues related to the developmental and psychological needs of college students. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. 

• Provide initial clinical assessment, crisis intervention, referral, consultation, brief individual psychotherapy and group therapy (process-oriented and psychoeducation) to a diverse student population.
• Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in compliance with state/federal laws, professional ethics code and CAPS policies.
• Provide consultation and support to staff, faculty, and others while respecting the client’s confidentiality, thoughtfully attending to ethical considerations, and consulting/collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues in the service of excellent clinical care.
• Support the University’s CARE team (Behavioral Assessment Team) by conducting risk assessments on students of concerns as needed.
• Provide clinical supervision and training to externs, interns, and other staff members as required. Participate in peer consultation and group supervision.
• Engages in professional development activities to maintain licensure/certification and qualification to supervise doctoral/masters level trainees.
• Contributes to the efforts of improving services and programs at CAPS.
• Develops and implements psychoeducational programs and outreach activities for the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, campus organizations, related academic departments, and Student Affairs units.
• Develops/participates in working relationships with other departments that share an interest in student wellness and engagement by serving on campus committees, task forces, and working groups.
• As a member of the SBU community, the incumbent must display enthusiasm for the work, the department, the Student Affairs division, and the University as a whole and is an active participant in University Sponsored Programs and events under the direction of the Center’s director.
• Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a part-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
