The Opportunity

The Department of Legal Studies in the College of Community Innovation and Education (CCIE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor, anticipated to begin on-site in Fall 2024. 

The selected candidate will contribute to the department mission by teaching core and specialized law courses in Legal Studies degree and certificate programs. The assistant professor is also expected to preform research and publish in academic and/or law journals. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and proficient in the law and its relationship to public policy and the public good, as well as exercise their ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with and engage in community partnering and demonstrate a commitment to university and/or community service.

The Department of Legal Studies offers undergraduate degrees (B.A./B.S.) in Legal Studies, multiple interdisciplinary undergraduate certificates and a graduate certificate to a diverse student body preparing students for success in law school, graduate school, and the legal profession. The department serves approximately 800 Legal Studies majors, has 10 full-time faculty and 2 staff members. Students have opportunities for legal internships and advanced undergraduate research in the university’s Honors in the Major program. Minimum Qualifications

By the time of appointment, candidates must have a completed J.D. from an accredited and ABA-approved law school, a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching, and an active record of scholarly research, and publications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned Ph.D. or LL.M. from a nationally renowned accredited institution.

• Successful grant writing experience or documented history of attempted funded research.

• Experience teaching with active-learning and online modalities.

• Expertise in two or more of the following areas: Environment Law, Space Law, Bankruptcy Law, Administrative Law, Poverty Law, Disability Rights, Urban Development, and Maritime Law.
