The Chemical Sciences and Engineering (CSE) Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee who under the guidance of a supervisor will conduct fundamental research in the development of electrolyte solvents and additives for lithium-sulfur batteries.

The research will be focused on the realization of new electrolyte system for the stable cycling of lithium anode and high loading sulfur cathodes.

The candidate will plan and conduct research on materials characterization including electrochemical evaluation and structural characterization. Mechanistic study on the working and degradation process will also be carried out.

Position Requirements

  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemistry, materials science, engineering, or a related field at the Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience

  • Experience in organic synthesis, possess good problem-solving skills based on understanding of reaction mechanisms

  • Experience in the purification and characterization of organic compounds

  • Considerable knowledge of using various analytical techniques such as FTIR, GC-MS, NMR etc .

  • Knowledge in lithium batteries and experience in electrochemical cell characterization is a plus

  • Experience in lithium-sulfur system is a plus

  • Considerable experience in preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, presenting papers at scientific meetings, and constructing reports and presentations to meet the sponsor reporting requirements
