Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr Lab Technician/ Mouse Colony Coordinator for NJMS- Center for Immunity and Inflammation. Under direction, performs technical laboratory procedures and analyses in support of specialized research activities of the laboratory.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Oversees lower level Technicians and support personnel.
  • Assists in the design, set-up, and conducting of experiments as required.
  • Monitors and manages mouse colonies for CII faculty that enlist in the service
  • Assists CII laboratories to transfer mouse census management to electronic platform such as Transnetyx
  • Maintains commonly used mouse strains as shared resource for CII faculty, breed and report availability to interested labs, coordinate transfer to interested lab
  • Facilitates mouse strain sharing between CII faculty by identifying excess mice from one lab and need by another lab
  • Assists laboratories in the design and implementation of breeding strategies to expand mouse colonies and/or generate mouse lines with multiple gene targeted loci
  • Assists laboratory staff in troubleshooting genotyping issues
  • Helps interface with IACUC by helping in the application for new animal protocols, help answer IACUC committee questions, help with compliance issues
  • Assists participating laboratories in mouse ordering, import and export of mouse strains
  • Trains designated lab staff from participating laboratories in breeding strategies, weaning, and genotyping.
