Youth Marine Foundation
Position Summary:
The Executive Director of Tacoma Youth Marine Foundation is responsible for day to day decisions and operations of the Youth Marine Foundation in line with the decisions and executive guidance of the organization’s board of directors.
This work falls into three basic areas: organizational finance, program operations, and board/leadership development.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong entrepreneurial and strategic mindset with a deep understanding of the local South Sound community.
- Demonstrated business acumen and the ability to deliver strong financial results for the Foundation and its business enterprises.
- Experience managing budgets of $2 million or more.
- Extensive experience and enjoyment working with teenagers.
- Local South Sound connections and familiarity with the regional landscape.
Responsibilities and Duties
Primary responsibility will be to oversee the successful operations of the Tacoma Youth Marine Center and its subsidiaries, including Commencement Bay Marine Services, Inc. and Tacoma Fuel Dock. You will work closely with the Board President daily and be expected to provide strategic leadership for the organization.
- Continue to grow and maintain existing high-quality, and lasting programming strategy through programs, and services at the Tacoma Youth Marine Center, a premier 2-acre waterfront campus including classrooms, docks, and a repair facility.
- Supervise the leadership team of Youth Marine Foundation, Commencement Bay Marine Services, Inc., Tacoma Fuel Dock, and MV Doolin-Rogers, ensuring their projects are supported and goals are achieved.
- Manage budgets of $2 million or more, ensuring effective financial stewardship and strong financial results.
- Lead the start-up and programmatic partnerships of the new world-class training vessel, MV Doolin-Rogers, including financial modeling.
Reporting Structure:
- The Executive Director is the organization’s key executive whose key duty is to carry out the vision and policy decisions of the board of directors. The Executive Director creates the staffing structure needed to carry out those executive functions.
Performance Expectations:
- Coordinate educational excursions during the 2023-2024 school year.
- Develop fund-raising activities for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Complete grant applications and presentations for 2024-2025 school year.
- Maintain staffing levels for all aspects of the Youth Marine Center and Youth Marine Foundation as needed to complete activities and goals set by the board of directors.
- Negotiate and draft school and program contracts with community program partners to maintain current partners and add partners for future school years.
