Phd Student IoT Sensor Design for Urban Pollution and Environmental Monitoring

Job Description


The AI-CHESS Lab at Saint Louis University seeks a PhD student interested in sensor design and machine learning methods for monitoring contemporary pollution problems in an urban setting. The position involves developing low-cost sensor systems and sensor fusion algorithms to monitor various pollutants effectively. The successful candidate is expected to prototype IoT networks, signal processing, and edge computing algorithms for efficient measurement and analysis of pollution data. Depending on their background and interest, the postdoctoral scholar will be hired in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences or the Department of Computer Science. Responsibilities:

  • Developing and deploying low-cost sensor networks
  • Working on experimental setups for different sensor designs
  • Developing algorithms for sensor fusion for representing spatial data Coauthoring technical reports and papers. Presentations at academic conferences

Required Qualifications:

  • MSc and BS in Earth Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of (recent GitHub projects) C++, Python, Arduino
  • Experience with and interest in developing IoT systems
