Postdoctoral Research Associate, Department of Radiation Oncology

University of Virginia

Job Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study the roles of epigenetic changes at the stalled DNA replication fork in response to chemotherapeutic drugs.

Our lab focuses on epigenetic reprogramming at the stalled replication fork by using DNA single molecular, replication fork proteomics, and high-through screening techniques. The incumbent will culture mammalian cells, and use cell biology, biochemistry, and genetic studies to identify novel roles of histone post-translational modifications in replication stress response pathways.

The successful candidate is expected to be self-motivated and career-oriented, can work independently and perform research on his/her own initiative, and collaborate with fellow students in the lab and department.

Candidates must have a Doctoral degree. Experience in DNA replication, DNA damage/repair, and chromatin biology is preferred. Candidates with significant expertise in epigenetics, proteomics, and translational research are encouraged to apply. We are a vibrant team that thrives on collaboration.

Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years1 and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.

The position is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.

The position will remain open until filled.  This is an exempt-level, benefitted position. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.  A pre-employment health screening is required. This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
