Position Summary:

The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry is seeking an energetic, organized, self-motivated, reliable, service-oriented individual to join our amazing administrative support team. Applies skills as a recruitment and admissions professional. Provides substantive information on student programs for the department. Performs recruitment activities. Evaluates and makes determinations regarding applications for admission using established guidelines. Under general direction of the program Director(s), responsible for supporting the Masters programs within the department. Provides guidance to graduate students on program requirements and fellowship applications. Under general direction of the Department Administrator, the incumbent is responsible for the administrative management of instructional, TA, student awards, block allocation funds, and research/travel awards. Works with department administrator, fiscal officers and Bio Sci HR to ensure appropriate appointment and funding support for TAs and GSRs. Distributes notice of appointments for ASE and GSRs as required. Provides student affairs support for the department including schedule of classes, and degree completion advising. Tracks and informs the Faculty Graduate Advisor and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies of student progress and PhD program curriculum needs. Serves as liaison between Graduate Advisor and PhD Candidate during advancement and thesis defense. Responsible for planning and coordinating special events for the graduate program.

$26.92 - $46.36 (Hourly Rate)

 

Required:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, to interact successfully with prospective and current students, faculty, staff and administrators, to effectively provide information, identify problems, and develop feasible solutions.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population. Working knowledge of UC, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective applicants and the public. Working knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs at UC. Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations and other institutions. Working knowledge of admissions requirements for campus / school / college. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Possess full range of skills, knowledge and ability to assess students’ developmental needs to make appropriate referrals to campus services. Operational knowledge of graduate program administration. Analytical ability to determine appropriate UC and Departmental policies and procedures to develop guidelines for a variety of graduate program activities. Working knowledge of instructional program, scheduling of classes, requests for new courses, and assignment of teaching assistants. Knowledge of course inventory management system and training in ESOC and R25, or similar course management and scheduling systems. Experience with automated financial systems including general ledger, employee database, and date warehouse resources. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, to interact successfully with prospective and current students, faculty, staff and administrators, to effectively provide information, identify problems, and develop feasible solutions.
