The Position

We are seeking an exceptional and enthusiastic researcher for a joint postdoctoral position in the departments of Cell Therapy Engineering and Development (CTED) in Pharma Technical Cell and Gene Therapy (PTC) and Human Genetics in Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED). We wish to recruit an independent and highly collaborative researcher with a background in stem cell biology, cell biology, or developmental biology to explore the molecular mechanisms that affect the differentiation potential of human pluripotent stem cells to retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. 

This postdoctoral scientist will be responsible for 1) the discovery of novel molecular pathways that affect the differentiation potential of human pluripotent stem cells to RPE cells, 2) optimize protocols to culture human pluripotent stem cells and differentiation to RPE cells,  3) Perform animal studies to demonstrate the engraftment and maturation potential of stem cell-derived RPE cells.

Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in stem cell biology, developmental biology, cell biology or related field
  • Strong background in human embryonic stem cells (hESC) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) 
  • Productive doctoral training is expected and should be reflected through a record of high-impact publications.
  • Experience in RPE differentiation, ocular development, single cell RNA-seq analysis is preferred but not essential 
  • Independent, highly motivated, and highly collaborative with the ability to fully utilize the internal resources at Genentech such as collaborating with gRED or other groups within PTC.
  • Quick learner, is curious about new areas and the opportunity to build expertise, and courageously and creatively take initiative to see your ideas implemented 
  • Enthusiastic about working in a scientific environment, especially one that is related to drug discovery and development

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $64,800 and $120,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below:
