Job Description


A Postdoctoral position is available immediately in a Medicinal chemistry research group in the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience, School of Medicine at Creighton University.

 

This NIH funded position will involve synthesis of small molecules and/or semi-synthetic peptide molecules and investigate their inhibitory biological profile in neuroinflammatory disease model. The goal of this work is to design and develop SAR of pre-identified lead molecule(s) using computational molecular docking tool in order to enhance their potency and efficacy. 

 

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who can provide intellectual input, project leadership, and can also work well within a group. The candidate will be joining a highly collaborative, vibrant, interdisciplinary and supportive laboratory environment. This position is 100% grant funded.

 

This position will work Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm, depending upon research needs position may require evening, weekend, and holiday work. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

 

Description: Provides senior-level support. Performs basic or applied research of a limited scope, primarily using existing theories and methods. Assists in the interpretation and publication of results and grants. Assists in initiating, executing and completing the clinical research and experiments. Prepares and writes research papers, presentations, grant proposals, etc. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete. Performs a variety of tests requiring a high degree of proficiency. Evaluates experiment results using complex statistical and multivariate analysis.

 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in organic/medicinal chemistry 
  • 2-4 years of research experience either in academics or industry 
  • Experience (2+ years) in a synthetic organic laboratory
  • Previous work experience as a medicinal chemist and neuroscience background are plus, but not necessary
  • Skilled performing analysis and purification of small molecules using variety techniques (TLC, FCC, HPLC, LC/MS, NMR, etc.).
  • Handling and knowledge base on surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) is plus.
  • Team focused, collaborative, self-motivated, goal-oriented, and passionate
  • Ability to interpret data and to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
  • Strong work ethic, excellent written and communication skills, and the ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending upon research needs.
