The Opportunity

The Parks' Lab in the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a non-tenure earning 12-month, assistant scholar/scientist of medicine position, anticipated to begin immediately.

The selected candidate will contribute to the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences mission by developing and applying innovative approaches for studying the molecular biology and immunology of viral infection. Efforts will include application of biochemical, molecular biological and genetic approaches to the study of viral pathogens.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and proficient with a track record of excellent research in microbiology of bacterial or viral pathogens, innate or adaptive immunology, or a related fields of basic science research. Strong tissue culture and microbiological expertise are preferred and experience in any aspect of gene expression analysis is a strong credential. The assistant scholar/scientist of medicine will work closely with Dr. Parks and staff in the multidisciplinary research team where they will have the opportunity for professional development through interaction with other microbiology and immunology scientists and in approaches to study both viral and bacterial pathogens.

The assistant scholar/scientist of medicine will have access to a wealth of resources including flow cytometry, bioinformatics, biochemistry, biosafety level 3 facilities, and immunological infrastructure. The position is available immediately.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in biomedical sciences, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, bioinformatics or a closely related field. The selected candidate must also have a record of completed or ongoing postdoctoral research.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates that have a strong track record of publications in the field (5 or more publications in relevant journals), general knowledge of infectious disease and molecular biology, experience in innate immunology research, experience in grant writing, the ability to work independently and with collaborators, and experience with mentorship of junior scientists.
