The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. HJF is seeking a Scientist I develop and conduct research projects.This position will be in support of the Department of Pathology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
 

The Scientist I will develop and conduct research projects to further the use of LY6 biomarker in immune-oncology. They will Investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems associated with the applications of Ly6 targets. Develops new technologies - cell therapy and antibody therapy and protocols needed to further clinical use of novel tumor biomarker Ly6 for the treatment of solid cancer.
 

Note: This work site requires that Non-US Citizen incumbents have lived in the US three out of the past five years.

Responsibilities:

  • Processes and interprets experimental data. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
  • Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
  • Coordinates and contributes to new grant and funding applications.
  • Trains and supervises laboratory technicians, as needed.
  • Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others.
  • Additional relevant experience required; Isolation and culture of mouse and human immune cells, multi clour flow analysis using cytoflex to analyze immune cells in xenografts, transduction of T-cells using virus in culture, T-cell injection via tail vein in mice, work with CAR-T cells and publications.
 

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
 

Physical Capabilities
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
  • Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects

Qualifications:

Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Education and Experience
  • Doctorate Degree required.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years experience required.
Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
