like to be included in the job posting/advertisement) The UC Irvine School of Medicine Department of Physiology & Biophysics is dedicated to conducting innovative, cutting-edge research, engaging in high-level service, and providing excellent educational opportunities and mentoring to students, postdoctoral fellows and residents in the discipline of physiology and biophysics.

Under general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, incumbent is responsible for the management of post award operations, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors. Analyze research funding trends and sources, forecasting, and planning. Oversight of research portfolios by monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms, and conditions; financial management and reporting; and sub award / subcontract issuance and administration. Requires extensive working knowledge and skill to apply University policies and procedures to facilitate various transactions and apply related information in the areas of budget, finance, and prepare reports of various accounts (contracts, grants, gifts and discretionary). General accounting principles and procedures to independently review, reconcile ledgers, monitor expenses, and develop financial statements and reports monthly to multiple investigators. Provide high level analysis and recommendation to the Department Administrator regarding all aspect of the financial operation of the unit including but not limited to recharge and sales and services activities.

$73,900.00 - $103,800.00 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $73,900.00 - $133,700.00 (Annual Salary)

 

Required:

5-7 years of related work experience with a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Demonstrated skill to independently analyze situations, interpreting data, defining problems and/or objectives, identifying relevant factors, and formulating logical conclusions, and using creativity and innovation in developing recommendations and options. Demonstrated experience applying general accounting principles and practices. Working knowledge of Uniform Guidelines and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) Demonstrated experience with UC accounting, contracts and grants pre and post awards, purchasing, and equipment management policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies and Procedures. Demonstrated experience performing financial analysis to identify relevant factors, formulate logical conclusions and devise alternate solutions. Skill to abstract information and summarize financial data in report format for long range planning, monitoring current budget and projecting future budget. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors; formulate logical and objective conclusions and recognize alternatives and their applications. Ability to function as a member of a team. Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to prioritize assignments when faced with heavy workload and competing deadlines Demonstrated experience with UCI's Kuali Financial System (KFS), employee database and data warehouse resources. Skill to communicate effectively and diplomatically in English in order to read and understand documents containing detailed information on University accounting, personnel, and contract and grant administration regulations; and concisely, logically, and accurately analyze and then relate pertinent information to principal investigators and administrators verbally and in writing. Excellent writing skills in order to prepare factual memos and analytical reports. Required Proven ability to work independently and carry out assigned tasks reliably with only general direction. Demonstrated ability to work towards long-range goals and objectives while maintaining an active daily calendar of short-term priorities. Ability to prioritize workloads and delegate responsibilities Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all required levels of the Campus community. Interpersonal skills to communicate in a professional manner to a broad variety of people both in person and over the telephone. Intermediate-level knowledge and experience working with computers and computer/database software, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated ability to maintain high level of confidentiality

 

Preferred:

Working knowledge of preparing and manage pre- and post awards,extramural funding, recharge and Sales and Services Working knowledge of School of Medicine and faculty salary compensation processes. Working knowledge of UC Human Resources Policies and Procedures is desired. Demonstrated experience with UC accounting, contracts, and grants, purchasing, and equipment management policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience with UCI's automated financial systems and data warehouse resources. Demonstrated knowledge of university policies and procedures related to academic and staff personnel

 

Special Conditions Required:

May be required to work additional hours as needed due to project deadlines and workload.
