Position Title (Classification Title):  Professor - Computational Biology, 128670
Job Summary: The Department of Biology at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola, FL invites applications for a 9-month, open rank tenure-track position with expertise in computational biology. This position will be a joint appointment with the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IHMC) in Pensacola, FL. We are seeking candidates who will integrate computational biology and high-throughput data analysis approaches that will complement the Department’s and IMHC’s research programs and mission. In collaboration with the Department, IHMC’s Healthspan, Resilience and Performance Research Program is establishing a substantial infrastructure and leading-edge research portfolio in computational biology. In addition to research, the ideal candidate will engage in student mentorship and innovative course design that incorporates research-based curricula using welcoming and equitable strategies. The candidate is expected to establish an active, extramurally funded research program that also provides mentoring opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.

Our faculty are active teacher-scholars who value collaborations both within and across disciplines. Teaching responsibilities include 1-2 courses per year at the undergraduate or graduate level in computational biology or other related area in the faculty member’s discipline.

FLSA: Exempt
Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Earned tenure and promotion in rank in the field of the doctorate. Successful administrative experience in higher education with demonstrated achievement in academic personnel budget administration and comprehensive academic planning. At least one position held for a period of not less than three consecutive years. A successful track record demonstrating an ability to work effectively in an environment of shared governance that relies on collegiality and consultative decision-making. Experience in and knowledge of processes planning and policy implementation related to accreditation is required.
Position Qualifications: Doctoral degree in a biological science or closely related discipline from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of, or potential for, achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
Preferred Qualifications Postdoctoral training in computational biology or a related discipline with a history of relevant, published research along with current or past independent research funding as Principal Investigator.
