Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Medical Assistant provides assistance to medical personnel including greeting patients, taking vital signs, and performing procedures that facilitate patient care. This is an essential position in times of public health emergencies related to the campus. Complete all tasks assigned by providers that help facilitate patient care.
This includes but is not limited to vital signs, screening medical questions, EKGs, nebulizer treatments, giving vaccinations, distributing OTC medications under the supervision of a nurse, and follow-up calls to patients.

Maintain proper inventory (stocking) supplies in all examination rooms. Ordering supplies as needed to accomplish this and ensuring all equipment is in proper working order. Equipment care – maintains equipment and ensures that equipment is cleaned and autoclaved. Weekly/monthly autoclave maintenance as required.
Administrative Assistance – answer phones, records information in the electronic medical record (EMR). Review immunization forms for completeness, and limited clerical functions as required.
Customer service – attentive to patient and visitor needs and inquiries, with a non-judgmental attitude and acute awareness to the comfort, safety, and confidentiality of patients. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED AND Five years performing a full range of clerical support services to include one year coordination work and one year in a medical setting. Comprehensive knowledge of the theory, principles, techniques and practices of the specialty are required.

Preferences:

Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant,
EMT Basics, or Athletic trainer program.
Five years’ experience working in a medical setting.
Work experience in an ambulatory health care facility
Must have a general knowledge of infection control and able to operate standard medical equipment used to take vital signs including vision testing.
Able to perform a range of medical assisting tasks such as EKG, nebulizer setup, vaccine administration, etc.
Computer skills in common computer applications, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience applying orthopedic appliances desired.

A flexible schedule – the 24 hours stretched across the week depending on the MA availability
