Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Senior Director of Graduate Student Career Coaching is the supervisor of the Graduate Student Coaches within the Office of Career Services. As the supervisor of this unit, the Senior Director is responsible for ensuring that the career coaching and programming offered to our graduate student populations is relevant, up-to-date, and effective in preparing our students to successfully navigate the modern career search landscape. The Senior Director will both be responsible for proactively recognizing needs for adaptation to existing coaching and programming offerings (both content and delivery) and directing and motivating the Graduate Student Coaches in the adaptation and adoption of these offerings. The coaching and programming offerings created should reflect the evolving requirements of this dynamic population of students and the graduate programs in which they are enrolled, and should clearly align with the strategic imperatives of the Office of Career Services and the larger Robert H. Smith School of Business. This person will collaborate with the Undergraduate Career unit within OCS in order to realize synergies. Additionally, the Senior Director will collaborate with the Employer Connections unit head within OCS to help create innovative, data driven approaches to connect students with their most promising opportunities. The Senior Director will also engage directly in coaching and programming to graduate students, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Masters Degree in Business or Masters Degree in Education.

Experience:
  • 7-10 years in various talent or career management positions in either industry and/or higher education. 
  • 3+ years of experience either managing recruiting and selection processes within the industry and/or managing career coaching, counseling, and programming activities within a university setting.
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of how to monitor and improve strategic alignment of activities with larger organizational strategic imperatives.
  • Knowledge of current challenges and innovative practices in both student career search and employer talent sourcing
  • Excellent skills in building and maintaining effective relationships, including building trust, collaborating with others, and influencing without authority.
  • Operational skills in delivering programming and services to diverse customers reluctant to “buy” what you have to sell.
  • Skills managing others to maximize their engagement with and contributions toward organizational goals and outcomes.
  • Strong customer-centric orientation.
  • Innovative problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills.

Additional Certifications:

Preferred:
A coaching certification is a plus.
