The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Tufts University, Medford, MA, invites qualified candidates to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in cosmology starting September 1, 2024. The Department includes seventeen tenured or tenure-track faculty and has strong research programs in high energy physics, condensed matter, cosmology, and astrophysics  (https://as.tufts.edu/physics ). The Institute of Cosmology currently consists of four faculty whoinvestigate a wide range of topics in theoretical cosmology, including general relativity, the early universe, dark matter, topological defects, and quantum gravitational effects. Connections to particle physics and astronomy are of special interest. We encourage candidates who demonstrate outstanding research and commitment to teaching, mentoring, and development of a diverse intellectual community to apply.

Candidates are required to have a PhD in Physics and postdoctoral experience at the time of application. They should have a strong record in research experience and creativity, and an interest in teaching and involving undergraduate/graduate students in research. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vibrant, funded research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students and postdocs.  Contributions to departmental teaching at all levels, including developing new courses to complement existing offerings, will also be expected.

We are especially interested in candidates whose research expertise in theoretical cosmology  complements our existing research and broaden its scope in ways that provide synergy with the Department’s  ongoing investigations in high energy particle physics and astronomy. This includes the following areas: model building beyond the standard model, general relativity, quantum aspects of gravitation, particle astrophysics, dark matter and dark energy, gravitational waves, early universe cosmology including inflation, particle theory and phenomenology with connections to cosmology, cosmological data analysis and computation. Preference will be given to candidates whose research demonstrates both breadth and creativity.
