Position Highlights The Department of Biosystems Engineering invites applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate I. This position is for the NACA project and will install and maintain irrigation systems and sensors, conduct irrigation, collect plant and soil data, fly drones to obtain remote sensing data, conduct laboratory analysis, perform data analysis, and prepare publications for peer-reviewed journals. Experience in crop water management, remote sensing, drone image processing, and drone operation is desired. The successful candidate must have good understanding of irrigation engineering technologies (sensors, subsurface drip irrigation, fertigation equipment, and irrigation models).

This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent upon funding and performance.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operation and maintenance of center pivot, pressurized drip, and gravity drip irrigation systems.
  • Using and refining irrigation models to optimize water use and crop productivity.
  • Collection and processing of field data (plant measurements, soil and plant samples, and soil water content using neutron moisture meter and other sensors).
  • Flying drones to collect remote sensing data.
  • Image analysis using Pix4Dfields, Pix4DMapper and other software.
  • Writing papers and publishing results in peer reviewed journals.
  • Assisting with field tours, field days, and other extension activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must have, as of the beginning date of the appointment, a Ph.D.
  • Must have Remote pilot in command license or obtain it after hire.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy .
