Research Scientist

Required Qualification: (as evidenced by an attached resume) 
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in cell biology, cancer biology, molecular biology, bioengineering or a closely related field. Three (3) years of research experience in either cell biology, cancer biology, molecular biology, or bioengineering, to include at least one year of research experience following attainment of a Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent.

Preferred Qualification:
Research experience in in vivo studies using mouse models, molecular biology and cell biology techniques, and have strong publication records and data management skills. 1-3 years of life science industry experience may be considered an additional advantageous qualification.

Brief Description of Duties:
Stony Brook University has a Research Scientist in the
Department of Biomedical Engineering . The successful candidate will design and conduct in vitro and in vivo mouse experiments in cancer research, set the conditions and protocols follow the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University and be responsible for the operations of the lab.

      Managing the functional cell culture laboratory, maintaining cell lines and equipment, and monitoring/ordering
of needed supplies for experimental work. Designing and performing experiments in vitro and in vivo tumor models, specifically ovarian cancer tumor models. Performing and characterizing cancer cell lines (especially ovarian cancer cell lines) grown in 2D and 3D embedded cultures for imaging experiments. Work collaboratively with postdocs and students as part of a team on mouse imaging experiments (mouse handling, mouse anesthetizing, preparing cells for injection, administration of cells and/or drug to mice via subcutaneous, intravenous, and/or intraperitoneal injections, establishing tumor xenografts, drug treatment, tumor measurement, mouse dissection, harvest organs and tumor tissue, and prepare tissue samples for histological analysis, etc). Performing molecular biology research techniques (e.g., PCR, western blotting, etc).

      Write and update animal (IACUC) protocols. Participate in writing manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed and/or scientific journals and internal/external grants. Present research progress at weekly update meetings, department seminar series and/or conferences.

      Organize weekly lab meeting schedules and maintain lab records including training, inventory, and safety regulations. Lead, mentor and motivate students on specific specialized skills and research methods.

      Analyze and interpret experimental results.

      Perform other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
