JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The laboratory of Dr. Raj Kothapalli in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Penn State Cancer Institute of The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Scholar position in the field of multimodal Photoacoustic and Ultrasound (PAUS) imaging. Working in a collaborative multidisciplinary team, the Postdoctoral Scholar will develop a multimodal PAUS imaging system for cancer diagnostics.

Responsibilities of the position include developing hardware and software (image reconstruction, simulations and AI) related to the PAUS imaging system, validation of the system in tissue phantom and animal models, clinical translation and validation in human subjects, data analysis and publications, preparing progress reports for funding agencies and assistance with grant applications. The candidate will receive training in the above areas and also in career-specific goals. Scholars will have access to state-of-the-art core facilities in both the engineering and medical campuses of Penn State to explore their interdisciplinary research interests.

The position requires a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in Biomedical Engineering, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related engineering discipline by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with an excellent background in quantitative ultrasound methods; building imaging instruments using optical/ultrasound/photoacoustic technologies; relevant simulation models and image reconstruction strategies; expertise with various ultrasound beam forming strategies (preferably using Verasonics ultrasound research platform); and hands-on experience with in vivo animal imaging.

This is a term appointment for one year from date of hire; renewal possible. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
