JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to participate in a project focused on studying the role of environmental microbiota in biofilm formation and antimicrobial tolerance of Listeria monocytogenes . The Postdoctoral Scholar will work in the laboratory of Dr. Jasna Kovac (https://foodscience.psu.edu/directory/jzk303 ).

The candidate will be expected to conduct microbiological analyses, including quantitative assessment of L. monocytogenes tolerance in biofilms. The candidate will be expected to prepare project reports, manuscripts, and research presentations in collaboration with team members. The candidate will also be expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate students working as part of the larger research group. Finally, it is expected that the candidate will work with their mentor to prepare and submit applications for external funding through appropriate fellowship and grant mechanisms. This is a term position funded for one year from date of hire with the possibility of re-funding.

Education and Experience:

The candidate will have a PhD in Food Science, Microbiology or a related field and will be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the PhD before the effective date of hire. The candidate will have practical experience working with foodborne pathogens. The candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and demonstrate evidence of effective writing through peer-reviewed publications.
