The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathologyhas an outstanding opportunity for Research Scientist/Engineer 2.

This individual will be engaged in neuroscience. Specifically, they will be involved in the characterization and analysis of cell and animal models of neurodegenerative disease, and the histologic and molecular characterization of human tissue samples from donors with and without neurodegenerative disease.
The research projects are to understand the molecular mechanism of neurodegeneration, particularly in the context of multiple pathologies in aging.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform all aspects of C. elegans husbandry, behavior/motility assessments, and genetic manipulations and confirmation and lead experiments using C. elegans
• Perform Digital Image Analysis
• Participate in Nanostring experiments
• Maintain IPS cell lines
• Assist in the training through supervision of students, postdoctoral fellows and other laboratory staff
• Contribute to the coordination of lab organization and function as needed (such as: ordering supplies, maintaining an orderly lab environment)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in: Neuroscience, Chemistry , other Biological Sciences or related field
AND two (2) years of relevant experience

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Specific knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job satisfactorily include:
• C. elegans handling and experimental approaches
• Design, execution, and confirmation of genetic crosses
• Perform and analyze behavior assays, including video analyses of swimming and crawling behavior
• Manage and maintain the resources
• Organized and thorough documentation of experiments and protocols
• Good communication

Desired Knowledge, skills and abilities include:
• Strong problem solving skills
• Laboratory management, including maintaining equipment, reagents and handling of hazardous
• waste
• Training and leading more junior scientists in laboratory procedures
• Cell culture
• Master’s Degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry or other Biological Science or related field.
