Program Description

Title: CEO

Reports To: Board of Directors

Primary Function:

Responsible for managing the strategic planning and operation of the organization, collaborates with the Board of Directors in developing organizational goals, attaining/allocating resources, and establishing policies. Plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress against goals. Will provide direction to key staff in caring out the roles assigned to them.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Serve as ex officio member of all Board Committees, including attending and providing reports at monthly Board of Directors Meetings.
  • Communicate with Board Chairman and Executive Committee, as needed.
  • Ensure the effective operation and delivery of the organization’s mission and principles within the Club and Community.

Strategic Planning

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for improvement and implement plans for improvements.
  • Remain active participant with Boys & Girls Clubs of America goals and strategies.

Communicate movement priorities to the local level.

Board Development

  • Ensure active participation by Board members and support effective Board roles and functions.
  • Work directly with the Board of Directors to identify, recruit and develop new Board members.
  • Track and report Board performance based on established standards.
  • Develop and implement Board member orientation program.
  • Coordinate identification of Board leadership opportunities, including officer and committee chairperson positions.

Resource Development

  • Develop and monitor progress towards annual Resource Development Plan.
  • Ensure the annual budget is funded and organization has adequate cash flow.
  • Research and analyze agency, corporate, individual and foundation donor bases and solicitation strategies.
  • Prepares and presents for approval proposals for corporate and foundation support of the Club, using current cultivation and solicitation materials.
  • Oversees planning of logistics for special events, including obtaining sponsorships and solicitation of gifts and preparing related printed materials and publications.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of the direct mail programs.
  • Ensure the evaluation of development activities and identify opportunities to improve results.
  • Develop strategic methods of securing resources through a variety of fund raising techniques. Identify, cultivate and solicit donors, with the assistance of the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee planning and implementation of special events.
  • Develop and monitor progress towards annual grant/foundations calendar.
  • Oversee and manages the 21stCentury grant and other major grants and giving.

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Participate in planning and execution of special events.
  • Be available to speak on behalf of the Club to interested groups.
  • Increase visibility of Club development activities using a variety of media outlets.
  • Develop strategic alliances with community leaders and local officials.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May be required to drive Club van.
  • May handle some deposits or banking transactions, in order to fulfill the organization’s expectations for segregation of duties.
  • Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Exercise authority in resolving issues.

Skills/Knowledge Requires:

  • Four-year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years experience in managing programs or operations in a non-profit agency or Boys & Girls Club.
  • Thorough knowledge of the missions, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs: the principles and practices of managing non-profit organizations; and resources development activities and sources of funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement effective operations.
  • Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the Board of Directors, staff, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate fund-raising operations.
  • Basic knowledge of asset management including financial resources and property.
  • Valid Missouri State Drivers License.
  • May be required to drive Club van. (Club may provide the cost for acquiring a Class E).

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.
