Job Summary

The candidate will work on improving and maintaining the GMG workflow for induced seismicity forecasting. The workflow include a reservoir model, a geomechanical model, and an earthquake nucleation model. The candidate will conduct research to improve the different parts of the workflow. The candidate will prepare tutorial and train other users of the workflow. The candidate will be reporting directly to the director of GMG.

Essential Job Duties

  • Test different reservoir modeling options (VFE, singlephae or multiphase) via benchmarking with reference solutions. Evaluate numerical performance.
  • Test different rheological models relating reservoir deformation to pore pressure variations.
  • Provide tutorials (possibly using Jupyter Notebook).
  • Train students and postdoc to use the workflow.
  • Interact with industry partners of GMG.
  • Present research and modeling tools at GMG annual meetings and Deep Dives.
  • Draft scientific articles in collaboration with the GMG PIs and the collaborators involved in the research.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree with Postdoctoral experience.
  • Good expertise in geomechanics and reservoir modeling.
  • Good expertise in earthquake physics.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in scientific programming (Python, Jupyter).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively and continuously prioritize and use sound judgment, based on knowledge and understanding of PI’s and lab's needs.
  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills.
