Job Description

Postdoctoral Associate - Materials Science

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Materials Science or a closely related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Materials Science with experience in density functional theory, molecular dynamics, and machine learning. Experience in studying radiation defects through atomistic modeling
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate positions will focus on a range of fundamental research activities related to lower length scale simulations involving density functional theory and molecular dynamics simulations to determine defect formation and migration energies, as well as binding energies to various microstructural defects and impurity species. Specific scientific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Mapping defect formation energies using density functional theory considering various point and defect clusters in the presence of impurity species.
  • Developing databases of defect distributions using molecular dynamics cascade simulations as a function of base material and target impurity species.
  • Calculations of defect kinetics in the presence of impurities treating single crystal cases and targeted grain boundary structures with a focus on monovacancies, H, He, He clusters, self-interstitial atoms (SIAs), SIA clusters, and targeted impurities.
  • Interpretation of data and effective communication in scientific literature.
  • Other duties as assigned.
