Description
The Department of Oral Biology and Pathology, Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor with neuroscience/neurobiology research expertise in the mechanisms, prevention, modulation, and treatment of pain or neuropathies. Candidates with additional specialty training in orofacial pain, endodontics, or other relevant dental disciplines are especially encouraged to apply. All candidates must have a PhD degree or PhD degree and DDS/DMD degree, postdoctoral training, and active NIH funding commensurate with academic rank.

The successful applicant will participate in the teaching of basic science courses in the dental curriculum and in the Oral Biology and Pathology graduate program. Faculty members will also participate in service at the college, university, and national levels, as appropriate for their academic rank. Finally, the successful candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various education, research, and service communities. A nationally competitive start-up package and customized laboratory facilities will be made available.

The Department of Oral Biology and Pathology has established research programs in gene/cell-based regenerative therapies, mechanisms of collagen degradation, oral and dental stem cell biology, biology of skin and mucosal grafting, wound repair, host modulation, salivary gland biology, inflammation, and oral microbiology. Dental-centered research areas in other departments include enamel and dentin bonding, dental materials, psychosocial aspects of health and illness, applications of cone-beam CT, dental implants, 3D printing, and applications of artificial intelligence in dental imaging (https://dentistry.stonybrookmedicine.edu/dentalresearch/resfaculty ).

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in a related field or a PhD degree and DDS/DMD degree, or equivalent foreign degree
  • Relevant postdoctoral training
  • Active NIH funding
  • Evidence of interest and ability in classroom instruction and mentoring for professional and graduate students
  • A willingness to serve as a role model and advocate for the ideals of professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialty training in orofacial pain, endodontics, or other relevant dental disciplines
  • Didactic and clinical teaching experience
