Associate Academic Dean

Full Time; Benefits eligible; $70k Annually

BASIC FUNCTION: Oversee and coordinate academic program administration at all Goddard teaching and learning sites. The Associate Academic Dean, reports to the CAO. Particular attention will be paid to the development and implementation of efficiencies in Academic Administration, in the context of the Academic Redesign process. This position works with the Assistant Dean for Community Life and faculty leadership on strategies for student retention in support of the College's overall strategic plan. This position will manage sensitive and confidential information, and interact with multiple constituents within the College.

  • Builds teams, creating buy-in and working through faculty leaders and members, administrators, and others to execute the College’s vision for improved fiscal sustainability, flexibility, and increased inclusion and diversity in its degree programs

  • Supervise academic program leaders

  • Coordinates resource allocation for degree programs

  • Participate in the review of degree program viability

  • Contribute to the work of the Institutional Research Work Group for planning and analysis

  • Facilitate Faculty/College relations in the context of a unionized faculty, including overseeing faculty hiring and evaluation

  • Works with the CAO and others to improve College functions concerning student learning outcomes measures

  • Serve on institutional level committees

  • Work with the CAO and others to create and implement an orientation to welcome new faculty

  • Participate in policy reviews and policy development, in support of College accreditation functions in the Academic Affairs Office

  • Reviews and attempts to resolve students' academic problems, including clarification of requirements, waivers, exceptions, complaints, academic honesty cases, etc.

  • Evening and weekend hours required when students are on campus to respond to specific academic issues

  • Travel to Plainfield, VT and Washington State residencies at the direction of the CAO

  • Must live within a 200-mile radius of the Plainfield, VT campus

  • May, under extraordinary circumstances, engage in student advising and instruction

  • Develop their own personal and professional support network to succeed in this demanding role

  • Performs additional duties requested by the CAO and acts for the CAO in any matters requiring a decision when the dean is unavailable for such action.

This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer/Academic Dean

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Degree program faculty and faculty leaders, and other positions that may be added.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree

  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds

  • Experience in higher education administration, undergraduate and graduate, appropriate to the position

  • Supervisory experience relevant to the job description

  • Experience in budget management

  • A willingness to attend a variety College events during day, evening, and weekend hours

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience working effectively with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Superior organizational skills

  • A high degree of energy, creativity, initiative, and flexibility

  • A readiness and ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively

  • An acute attention to detail

  • Demonstrated capacity for growth and effective leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and a commitment to social justice in higher education

  • Computer literacy and technical aptitude are required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate

  • Five or more years of faculty leadership experience

  • History of professional publication

  • History of professional organizations leadership at a national or international level
