Residential Learning Academic

About the Department

The Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) is where students discover connections and community. It is where students live, where they gather, where they improve themselves, each other, and their university. DASA is where students seek guidance and support, both in and outside of the classroom. The division serves all students at NC State through three integrated components: academic affairs, student affairs, and University College.

NC State was named a great place to work in the 2022 Forbes annual survey as the best large employer in North Carolina. The Division of Academic and Student Affairs is the place to work for faculty and staff who are passionate about promoting the success of the whole student.

University Housing serves as a unit within DASA. For more information regarding the mission, vision, and values of University Housing, we encourage applicants to review the University Housing website – https://housing.dasa.ncsu.edu/.

Essential Job Duties

A Living and Learning Village is a place where students, staff, and faculty are engaged around common learning outcomes to “think and do” in a shared residential environment. Villages provide connected curricular and co-curricular experiences to foster a sense of belonging, cultivate an intellectually enriching environment, and support the development of the whole student. As content-area professionals, Program Directors sustain all aspects of the program’s day-to-day operations, programmatic leadership, and long-term vision for Village enhancement and growth. In alignment with invested strategic partners in academic and campus units as well as University Housing’s Residence Education Model (REM), the Program Director creates and implements holistic experiential learning opportunities for students.

As one of our 15 Living-Learning Programs, the Global Village provides opportunities for approximately 100 – 165 international and U.S. students paired as roommates. Students who live in the Global Village are interested in interacting with and learning from people from various backgrounds, experiences, countries, and viewpoints. The community focuses on global cultural exchange with the overarching goals of increasing cultural competency and preparing students for global citizenry. Example signature learning experiences can include local and overnight trips, a monthly focus on a different culture to explore with tea from the region students are learning about, and informal faculty interactions. The Program Director sustains all aspects of the program’s day-to-day operations while building a long-term vision for Village enhancement and growth. The Program Director fosters collaborative partnerships with the Global Training Initiative, Office of International Services, New Mind, Intensive English Program, International Studies Program, and Study Abroad. The Program Director evaluates the success of the program toward achieving goals and objectives through an assessment plan and strategies that enable data-driven decision-making and continuous program improvement.

Reporting Structure: The Program Director reports to the Associate Director for Living Learning Programs and may have reporting expectations to strategic campus partner(s) identified within a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
