Postdoctoral Appointee - NST - Superconducting Quantum Devices and Quantum Networks

Argonne

Job Description

The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on superconducting quantum devices and quantum networks. The project aims to develop quantum information processors based on superconducting qubits and single-electron qubits for interfacing with hybrid microwave-optical quantum networks. The postdoc will design, simulate, and fabricate superconducting quantum devices, and perform low-temperature quantum experiments. The postdoc will also work with other team members to integrate the microwave quantum processors into a fiber-optical quantum communication network. The project will take advantage of CNM’s state-of-the-art facilitates and capabilities; in particular, the CNM cleanroom for nanofabrication and the dilution refrigerator in the Quantum Matter and Device Lab for quantum experiments.

The successful candidate will be part of a highly collaborative team and actively interact with Argonne and UChicago scientists as well as external collaborators. The candidate should have a strong background in experimental physics and/or engineering, or in a relevant field. Experience device nanofabrication, low-temperature experiments, and programming skills for controlling microwave measurements are highly preferred.

Position Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, received within the last 3 years or upcoming year
  • A strong background in experimental physics and/or engineering is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong skills in collaboration.
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Good:

  • Experience in device nanofabrication.
  • Experience in microwave device characterization and measurement.
  • Knowledge and good understanding of quantum information science.

Desirable:

  • Experience with superconducting qubit design, fabrication, and measurement.
  • Experience with dilution refrigerator operation and cryogenic experiments.

The position is available as soon as 2023, with flexibility in start dates for highly qualified candidates. Interested candidates please apply online and send any questions about the role to Dr. Xu Han (xu.han@a nl.gov).

Please note only applications through Workday will be considered.
