Job Description Summary:
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Steven Weinman, MD, PhD, Director of the Liver Center, to work on NIH-funded projects examining the role of macrophages in the development and resolution of liver diseases.
Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment. Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment, the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career.
Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: Recent Ph.D. in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field.

Work Experience:

  • A record of creativity and scientific productivity as evidenced by application materials.

  • Experience in cellular immunology, molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Experience with transgenic mouse handling

  • Experience with single-cell sequencing

  • Experience with flow cytometry

  • Experience with bioinformatics

Skill:

  • Strong laboratory “bench” skills

  • Ability to independently plan and complete projects

  • Strong oral and written scientific communication skills

Job Duties Outlined

  • Perform experiments to understand macrophage origins and functions in animal models of liver disease. Experiments will involve flow cytometry, and single-cell RNA sequencing.

  • Perform in vivo experiments in transgenic mouse models of liver injury.

  • Design and execute experiments, analyze data, write, and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications.

  • Design independent experiments in consultation with supervisor.

  • Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research.

  • Train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research, as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor.

  • Participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia.

  • Participate in the University’s Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars.

  • Supervise graduate students.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
