Building Equipment Mechanic II

Job Description Summary

Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a Full time Building Equipment Mechanic II. Campus Facilities’ mission is to provide a safe and functioning environment to the College community. This includes managing the operations and maintenance of the physical plant, including mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems, as well as building systems including elevators and life safety. In addition, periodic interaction with Building Services, Grounds and Facilities Help Desk is required. This position is a Bargaining, Non-exempt, Grade 25. Please see work schedules below. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College.

(S03682) Sunday – Thursday; 2:30 pm -11:00 pm

Job Description

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect buildings to ensure safe comfortable learning environments. Inspect heating ventilation and air conditioning equipment, electrical, plumbing, elevators, and life safety systems for proper operation and maintenance.

  • Inspect and Maintain Plant and HVAC Systems

  • Perform Preventative Maintenance, test life safety systems

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of Maryland 2nd Grade Stationary Engineering training.

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience working with commercial heating ventilation and air conditioning systems, air handling units and VAV boxes, rooftop packaged unit.

  • Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in this position may be considered. 

  • Maryland 2nd Grade Stationary Engineer license. EPA Section 608 Universal license optional.

  • Valid driver’s license is required with evidence of good driving record.

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word Excel, Outlook), the Internet and Windows-based applications.

  • Advanced knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials common to HVAC repair and maintenance.

  •  Comprehensive knowledge of building and fire codes, occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Comprehensive knowledge of pneumatic line, low voltage and direct digital controls. Comprehensive knowledge of boiler and hydronic distribution systems.

  •  Comprehensive knowledge of air distribution systems and their operation, troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment (systems) including #2 fuel fired boilers and related components. Comprehensive knowledge of the procedure for conducting failure analysis.

  • Working knowledge of PC based test equipment and self-contained testing equipment.

  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EPA Section 608 Universal license.
