Job Summary:

The Department of Neuroscience in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is pleased to invite applications for tenure-track faculty. We seek outstanding candidates in all areas of neuroscience and neuroscience-related disciplines, as the Department embarks on a multi-year plan for growth and diversification. We particularly encourage applications for assistant professor appointments, although other ranks will be considered.
Neuroscience has a longstanding tradition of excellence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Department of Neuroscience faculty are experts in cellular, molecular, and systems neuroscience. Our basic research extends from gene expression to system functions, with focus areas such as ion channels, signal transduction, chromatin biology, synaptic transmission and plasticity, neural development and circuit formation, degeneration and regeneration, sensory and motor processing, circuit functions, perception and sensorimotor integration, neural computation and theory, and human evolution. The department's foundation in basic sciences informs translational research addressing grand challenges in neurodevelopmental disorders and aging, diseases of excitability including epilepsy and cardiac arrhythmia, and cognitive and sensorimotor dysfunction.
The Department offers a stimulating, collaborative, and inclusive environment for research, training, and education. Junior faculty are supported by the department, school, and institution, by colleagues recognized for innovation in mentoring and mentor training and dedication to junior faculty success. UW-Madison is home to the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, the Waisman Center for Developmental Disabilities, the McPherson Eye Research Institute, and the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. Research is supported by modern shared facilities including the UW-Madison Cryo-EM Center, the UW Optical Imaging Core, Center for High Throughput Computing, and many others. Neuroscience faculty mentor graduate students in the Neuroscience Training Program and several other graduate programs across campus, with many trainees supported by NIH T32 training grants.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program that complements existing strengths of the department and embraces our commitment to inter-disciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will also participate in teaching, and in professional, public and university service appropriate to the faculty rank to support the scholarly and clinical missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Education:

Required
PhD in Neuroscience, Physiology, Neurobiology or a related field required.


Qualifications:

At least 2 years of postdoctoral research experience required.
