Position Details:


Summary of Duties:

  • Develop a research program in dairy science and conduct nationally and internationally recognized research in dairy chemistry, processing/engineering, or microbiology, working with internal collaborators in the School of Food Science as well as academic and industry partners outside the university.

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in dairy or fermentation science, food analysis, food chemistry and/or other subjects within their field of experience. 

  • Recruit, mentor, and advise undergraduate and graduate students. 

  • Participate in service activities (i.e., outreach, recruiting and other) of the department, college and university.

  • The successful candidate will have expertise in dairy research, including: 

  • The ability to develop and externally fund a research program centering on dairy foods and their properties.

  • Experience forming research partnerships within the dairy industry.

  • Experience in teaching (course principal instructor) and course development is preferred.


Required Qualifications for All Ranks:

  • Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Technology, Dairy Science or related field (Ph.D. must be granted at or before the time of application).

  • A record of peer-reviewed publications and other scholarship in dairy research commensurate with career level.


Preferred Qualifications for All Ranks:

  • Expertise in research on dairy-based foods, including dairy chemistry, dairy processing/ engineering (i.e., filtration, whey processing, etc.), microbiology, and others.

  • Experience in teaching and course development

  • Demonstrated oral and written English communication skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies in a global environment. 

  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork and team building roles to work collaboratively, independently, and harmoniously with other people 

  • Postdoctoral or equivalent research and teaching, or previous food industry experience, especially in dairy

  • Experience in forming partnerships with industry

  • Strong research and publication record in dairy science

  • Record of competitive grants, service contracts, and gift development success commensurate with career level 

Additional Requirements for Associate Professor Rank:

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a successful independent research program

  • Successful Associate Professor candidates must currently have Associate Professor status

Annual Salary:

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
