Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Supervising Licensed Practical Nurse in Ambulatory Care at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction, the Supervising Licensed Practical Nurse, supervises clinical staff and directs all daily operations. Performs clinical, administrative and supervisory duties for the department. Prepares works schedules, approves and monitors requested time off for clinical staff to ensure adequate coverage at all times. Trains and monitors all new clinical staffs on policy and procedures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Directly supervises staff during physician office hours. Ensures that all new clinical staff adhere to RHG policies and procedures.
  • Proactive engagement and anticipation of clinical faculty needs. Meets regularly with all faculty to develop a smooth and efficient process in the out-patient setting.
  • Must be proficient ordering clinic supplies in Market Place. Ensures all supplies are stored and rotated by date to avoid any waste. All shopping orders will be forwarded for review and submission.
  • LPN supervisor will be directly responsible for clinic hours, OR schedule and ensure that support staff have all out-patient procedures and OR cases pre-certified and authorized prior to schedule date.
  • Oversees heavy daily patient call volume and that all “red flag” issues are addressed on a daily basis. Assigns other staff members to cover their duties during approved absences.
  • Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers’ regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • At least three (3) years of recent experience as an LPN in a busy medical practice or university setting.
  • One (1) year experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Possession of valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • BLS/CPR certification.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques.
  • Must have proficiency in EMR, IDX, SCM or other related databases.
  • Must be able to work evenings.
  • The ability to work independently and have excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and flexibility.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to assist patients on/off exam tables. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift and store supplies as needed, up to 25 lbs.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Very busy and sometimes noisy work environment. Clinical Office setting. Very busy surgeons with busy office hours. Supportive environment. Staff need to communicate and get along well.
